THE ELDERGARDEN PROGRAM

Eldergarden is a geriatric program designed for anyone over the age of 60 who is physically and/or mentally disabled. Eldergarden provides comprehensive services and activities to encourage the highest level of independence. This is accomplished by fostering skills for daily living and also cultivating new skills whenever possible.

What are some components of Eldergarden?

There are three main components of Eldergarden:

  1. Quality, personal care in a safe, supportive environment
  2. Therapeutic, recreational activities
  3. Socialization
These tasks are completed through networking with other community and social service agencies. The Eldergarden Program is a member of PADSA, Pennsylvania Adult Day Care Service Association, and PAPA , Pennsylvania Activity Professional Association and is also licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.

What is a typical day like at Eldergarden?

A typical day at Eldergarden begins at 7:30am with staff providing a morning greeting, followed by a continental breakfast. Next, reality orientation and exercise is conducted to improve circulation. Group educational and recreational activities follow. A balanced lunch is provided, followed by a brief relaxation period and discussion group.

The afternoon is comprised of: group activities in some form of craft, game or sports activity; such as bingo, Pokeno, basketball darts, etc. Activities also include baking, learning about nature, poetry readings, movies, dances, holiday parties, and much, much more.

The day concludes at 3:30 p.m. If you are concerned about how your loved one will arrive and depart, you need not worry because transportation's can be arranged in conjunction with the Schuylkill Transportation System.
